Ruthie Edgerly Oberg was born and raised in the Houston, Texas metro area. Her upbringing in the Pentecostal Church of God (formerly of Joplin, MO and now based in Bedford, TX) gave her a solid foundation in Pentecostal teaching and worship. Her passion is expository preaching, using historical illustrations to shed light on how God has worked with and through ordinary people.
She experienced a call to ministry when she was 15 and immediately God began opening doors for her in small churches in the Houston area. She was the first female to take the top award in the preaching category of the Oral Roberts University Educational Fellowship when she was 17. Thanks to the influence of Rev. John McDuff of Faith Assembly in Pasadena, TX, and her uncle, George Edgerly, Ruthie began a lifelong relationship with the Assemblies of God after graduating from Central Bible College in 1991.
Ruthie has been married to Shawn Oberg since 1989. Shawn is also an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God and, together, they pastored for 25 years in the Iowa District.
They have three children:
They are also proud to be the grandparents of the world’s most intelligent granddaughter:
In her spare time, Ruthie enjoys running an AirBnB, and helping to catalog books for churches and schools in the States and abroad. She is an avid traveler and has visited 17 countries on missions trips or historical study tours, including recently helping to set up the remainder of the Central Bible College library at West Africa Advanced School of Theology in Lome, Togo.
